Health and Safety in the Workplace Is Often Over Looked and Can Be a Fatal Business Mistake.
This is the biggest safety cartoon I’ve ever drawn with over 50 safety hazards highlighted.(A2 in size!)
Workplace related injuries are all too common as this safety cartoon illustrates. Most people aren’t given the proper instruction or even shown the right way of doing things so they often make simple careless mistakes. Depending on what they are doing however someone trying to change a light bulb or fix a printer can end up seriously injured, maybe even dead. The first and most important thing to do to a workplace that this office staff has completely ignored is keeping the area neat and tidy. Someone tripping over a bag like Larry is about to because Janice left it lying beside her desk on the right side of the office is all too common place an accident and with Mary trying to climb around behind her desk at the same time they could really hurt each other if they fell into one another. Even worse Gary at the bottom right has boxes scattered everywhere and poor Philip who really needs a clear pathway to get through with his wheelchair has to wait for him to clean up his mess. This cripples work productivity and depending on what kind of work is being done in the office can be extremely dangerous.
It’s scary to see at the top of the picture that Charles thinks he can vicariously stack boxes on top of a bookshelf as he is. The way those items are organized makes the shelf very top heavy making it want to fall forward. Climbing up it as he is practically asking for it to fall forward and seriously hurt him. What makes it even more terrifying is the door next to him that is propped open with a fire extinguisher! This is a recipe for disaster and highlights the importance of keeping a clean and organized work area. It is shocking to see that this office crew has to door on the top right of the office completely blocked off with boxes and a broken step ladder. There are all kinds of things wrong with this! Perhaps this would be acceptable if that part of the building was shut off and not safe for people to enter. But it is labeled at a fire exit! It should be completely clear and the sign should be repaired straight away.
Proper employee training is the only way to avoid these sorts of problems from occurring and making sure that everyone knows it is dangerous to keep around broken equipment, leave their things lying around, or using ladders that aren’t setup properly. Each and every office should include a workplace safety training course to avoid any sort of mishaps that could lead to serious business losses and even worse a potential death in the workforce.
